A Message from our Approved Provider

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First People of Australia and as the Custodians of the land on which Foundations Learning Academy are located. We recognise the rich and diverse culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and the Valuable information the diversity brings to our centre.

This plan highlights our journey to Reconciliation, whilst focusing on our key focus groups. It will allow us to celebrate and build on our current programs, while establishing new partnerships and embedding practices.

We are proud to present Foundations Learning Academy’s Reconciliation Action Plan- “Working towards Reconciliation” for 2024.

Our Vision

At Foundations Learning Academy , our mission is to create an inclusive learning environment for all children. We aim to work closely with families and the local community to overcome any barriers to inclusion we may face.

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the First People of Australia and as the custodians of the land on which we are situated. For this, we are committing ourselves to Reconciliation to create equal outcomes for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We envision that our journey to Reconciliation will be taken alongside our educators, families, and communities. Our Reconciliation Action Plan will guide our journey, while being used to document our progress.

Families & Community Actions

Foundations Learning Academy will acknowledge, celebrate, and participate in NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week Celebrations. Deliverable:

  • We will plan and celebrate events each year related to 1. the above weeks.
  • We will participate in Wear It Yellow Fundraiser within the Wider Community.
  • We Will Participate in the Great Book Exchange to promote literacy within
  • First Nations Children within the Community.
  • We will provide educators with adequate information and resources.
  • We will Provider families with information regarding NAIDOC Week and
  • Reconciliation Week Celebrations to build on their understanding.

Timeline: June - July 2024

Foundations Learning Academy Will Aboriginal and maintain relationships with at least and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, Communities and Organisations. Deliverable:

  • Meet with Aboriginal one local organisation and Torres Strait Islander Organisation and discuss how as an embed we can work together to practices Organisation within our service to promote Reconciliation.
  • Invite an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elder and or Elder to visit our service and provide education to the children.

Timeline: September 2024

Families & Community Actions

Foundations Learning Academy will display Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flags on Premises. Deliverable:

  • We will contact the local MP and arrange for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Flags to be sent to the service and displayed with respect.

Timeline: May 2024.

Foundations Learning Academy will develop policies to support Inclusion and Reconciliation in our service. Deliverable:

  • Approved Provider, Operations Manager and Nominated Supervisor to review policies and ensure they represent current practices and Centre Philosophy.
  • Nominated Supervisor will liaise with Inclusion Professionals from KU Children’s Services to review policies relating to inclusion.
  • Educators and Families will be invited to provide feedback on Policies.

Timeline: January 2024 and ongoing

Children's Actions

Foundations Learning Academy will commence with an Acknowledgment of Country before significant events and Group Times. Deliverable:

  • Display Acknowledgment of County will be displayed within the service and rooms.
  • Educators will encourage and support children to practice
  • Acknowledgment of Country on a regular basis.
  • Management and Staff Meetings will be started with our acknowledgment of country.

Timeline: January 2024- ongoing

Foundations Learning Academy will educate children and promote inclusions environment or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People. Deliverable:

  • Educators will implement and Support Indigenous practices within our program.
  • Educators will provide children with further learning opportunities if curiosity is observed.
  • Educators will work towards embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait
  • Islander Histories and Cultures in programming, Planning and evaluations.

Timeline: June 2024- ongoing

Staff Actions

Foundations Learning Academy will actively monitor Reconciliation Plan Development and Implementation of Actions. Deliverable:

  • Approved Provider, Operations Manager, Nominated Supervisor and RAP Office will meet annually to review the services plan .
  • Regularly reflect on Reconciliation Plan with Educators.
  • Foundations Learning Academy will extend invitations to provide feedback to the families and staff members.

Timeline: May 2024.

Foundations Learning Academy will regularly reflect opportunities our cultural competences and provide staff with a range of opportunities to build on their capacity. Deliverable:

  • Nominated Supervisor will display professional development opportunities on Story Park.
  • Service will pay for Professional Development opportunities for Educators.
  • Children will practice Acknowledgment of Country on a regular basis.

Timeline: September 2024.
